At approximately 1300 hrs on November 16, 2007, New Hamburg Fire Department and Mobile Life Ambulance were dispatched for live electrical wires down on an occupied school bus and a truck on fire on Sheafe Rd. in the area of the Sheafe Rd. Elementary School. New Hambugh 53-1 (Chief Moore) arrived several minutes later and reported that he had live wires down on an occupied school bus and also a small fire burning on a nearby truck. A landscape company was trimming a tree and a branch fell onto the electrical lines severing them and as they fell, they contacted both their truck as well as a passing school bus.... The power line involved was a high voltage feeder line and upon it's contact with the truck and the ground, started numerous fires and made for a frightening experience for the bus driver, the seven students on the bus, the landscape crew, as well as onlookers who gathered to helplessly watch the situation unfold........ Central Hudson responded to secure the power to the area, the numerous fires were extinguished by New Hamburg FD, and the bus driver and students were safely removed from the bus without incident.
