On February 18, 2007, the New Hamburg Fire District and Mobile Life Support were dispatched to a 52 year old male in cardiac arrest at the Poughkeepsie Galleria. Upon arrival of Lt./CFR Billy Denbaum and Firefighter/EMT Doug Hexel, Poughkeepsie Galleria Security had begun CPR on the victim. Lt./CFR Denbaum and FF/EMT Hexel continued to administer CPR and defibrillation along with Assistant Chief Frank Ferguson, Past Chief/Life Member Jack Perusse, Firefighter/CFR P.J. Stratton, Lt. Jason Caulfield, and Fire Police/Life Member Jim Hannigan. The victim had also suffered a serious head injury when he fell backwards. The members on the scene controlled the bleeding and treated the head injury while reviving the victim. The victim survived and was able to walk out of the hospital two weeks later. On April 10, 2008, these members were honored at the Exchange Club of Southern Dutchess Salute to Dutchess County Heroes Awards Dinner. Fire Police Jim Hannigan passed away on July 7, 2007 and was awarded posthumously.
