On May 5th 2005, the New Hamburg Fire Department hosted a fire prevention event for the Sheafe Road School kids and teachers. Crews went to the school early in the morning for Grades K-4 and then the Fifth graders traveled to New Hamburg Station #1 for lunch, check out the rigs, and go into the fire safety house provided by the Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response where they learned first hand how to crawl to an exit if there was a fire/smoke condition. Local news and newspaper reporters were on hand to cover the event.
